Sculpture

Painting

Above is Mesh Vessel which I made this Spring. It is about 3 feet tall, about a foot wide, and sticks out from the wall about two feet. It is made of black window-screen and sand. This is a snap-shot, the kind of thing that I normally do not post on my website. But this is a great way of inviting you to my blog, where I will post works-in-progress, ideas-in-progress, and so forth, just the sort of thing Mesh Vessel represents. For this specific blog-post, click here. For my own purposes, I've found the blog to be a great way to keep track of my thoughts, and the progression of my work. I hope you enjoy it, and will leave comments!

It's based on Viking ships, but I'd say one meaning has to do with idealized forms (along the lines of Plato's Forms), and how a universal concept "travels" back and forth from an ideal to a concrete reality. The title is the first words that Brünnhilde sings when she is awakened by the hero in Wagner's opera Siegfried, and means "Hail to thee, Sun."
