Dearest Susan:
I was thinking of making a Pretentious line of ware. Ostentatiously ornamented, with little feet on the cups and so on. A non-gender-specific “Princess” look. Maybe “über-cranky” would look good on these?

As you’re getting into ‘craft’ you need, mind you NEED, to read this-
The Unknown Craftsman: A Japanese Insight into Beauty: Yanagi, Sôetsu

ceramics, craft history, art, insight… it’s all there. I should reread it.
oh- the installation looks great!!!! the ghost ship floating through the museum.

Takk, Esteban! The clip reminds me of my older paintings, with their ambiguous figure-ground relationships. It was very bright yesterday in the museum, and the clip was a bit washed-out–not necessarily bad, but not what I expected. . .

Nan, Dahlink:
It’s true what you say about particular colors. . .The yellows are bright enough to show, as are blues and green (pale hues), but red does not cut it. I’ve manipulated the red imagery to more of a purple, which does work.

Thanks for your comment! I had someone mention at the museum that my sculpture harmonized with the building, which was unintentional on my part. It is a beautiful building. . .a kind of shrine.

Hi Mike-

It looks fabulous! The ghost ship under water. I think the projection imagery doesn’t read (the sculpture image), at least in the video. And I think it reads as water partly because of how it flows across the scrim, and party because of the colors- so it might be interesting to see projections with more oranges and yellows to see if it still reads as water.

it looks really good! I used to work at the museum and I just love the curves and the flow of the building. I think your installation looks amazing and I can’t wait to see it when I visit the museum.
